What is Leaders in Training?
Leaders in Training (LiT) is a flexible, year-long leadership development programme from Assemblies of God Great Britain. It's designed for everyday church leaders who want to grow in their faith, deepen their understanding of Pentecostal theology, and develop their leadership skills — all while continuing to serve in their local church.
Delivered through a hybrid of in-person group sessions and video teaching, LiT brings together emerging leaders from across a region to learn, discuss, and grow together over 12 months.
Who is LiT for?
LiT is for people aged 18 and over who are already serving in a leadership role in an AoG church — such as an elder, department leader, youth leader, or similar — and who want to develop further. You don't need any prior qualifications; what matters is that you're actively leading, committed to your local church, and hungry to grow.
LiT sits in the leadership development pipeline between Young Lions (ages 14–18) and Ministers in Training (MiT), making it ideal for those who want to level up their leadership without necessarily pursuing ordination.
What's the difference between LiT and MiT?
Ministers in Training (MiT) is AoG's pathway to becoming an accredited minister. It's for those sensing a call to full-time or vocational ministry.
Leaders in Training (LiT) is for the person who loves their church, is already leading in some capacity, and wants to go deeper — without necessarily pursuing ordination. Simply put, it's for people who want to take their leadership seriously.
Does LiT lead to a formal qualification or accreditation?
LiT is not an accredited qualification. On completion, delegates are celebrated across AoG social media channels and at their Area Day, and receive recognition of their achievement within the movement. It also serves as a connection point for leaders into their area and the AoG Circles
How long does LiT take?
LiT runs over 12 months, covering 12 modules. Sessions are typically delivered monthly, with the order of modules flexible to suit your area's rhythm and needs.
Who created the course content?
LiT has been built with input from a wide variety of leaders from across AoGGB, bringing together a breadth of experience and perspective. The theological modules have been shaped with the involvement of the Missio Dei faculty, ensuring the content is grounded in our distinctly Pentecostal theology.
How do I apply?
Applications are made by your Senior Pastor on your behalf through a simple online form on the AoG website. A £250 fee is paid at the point of application. Once processed, your Area Lead will be in touch with next steps, course dates and an invitiation to your first in-person session.
When do applications open?
Applications are open now until the end of July, ahead of the September 2026 pilot launch.
Can our church put forward more than one delegate?
Yes — multiple delegates from the same church are welcome to apply.
Is LiT open to churches outside AoG?
Currently LiT is available to members of AoG churches only..
Is there a minimum age?
Yes — delegates must be 18 or over to apply.
Is LiT available in my area?
We're launching in all AoG areas in September 2026, with plans to extend availability across missional ministries in the future.
What does a typical session look like?
Each module is built around three 20-minute video teaching sessions, followed by facilitated group discussion. Sessions are delivered in groups of up to 10 delegates with one area facilitator. The format is hybrid — some sessions in-person, some online — depending on your area.
The discussion is central to how LiT works. Rather than passive learning, delegates are expected to engage, share, and apply what they're hearing in the context of their own leadership experience.
Can I rewatch the video content after a session?
Video content is facilitated within group sessions rather than available for individual replay. The group dynamic and live discussion are at the heart of what makes LiT effective. Worksheets and session resources are yours to keep after each session for personal reflection and further study.
What does the mentoring involve?
Alongside the group sessions, each delegate has mentoring sessions with their local Senior Pastor, or the minister who put them forward for the course. Structured guides are provided to support these conversations, ensuring they're focused, developmental, and connected to what's being covered in the course.
What does the assessment involve?
Assessment in LiT is reflective rather than academic. At the start of the year, delegates complete a self-reflection and their sending minister provides an initial assessment. At the end of the year, a self-review is completed together with the sending minister in a 1-2-1 conversation — looking at growth, development, and next steps.
Is the course available in other languages?
All content is currently delivered in English. We're aware of the need to serve our diverse AoG communities and hope to explore other language expressions in the future.
What is expected of me as the nominating Senior Pastor?
As the nominating minister you'll complete the initial application on behalf of your delegate, and commit to mentoring sessions with them across the year. At the end of the course you'll be asked to provide feedback to the Area Lead on the impact LiT has had — both on your delegate and your church.
What next steps does LiT open up for my delegate?
Completion of LiT connects delegates to the wider AoG movement — through Area Days, AoG Conference, and other national events. For those who feel called toward vocational ministry, LiT is a natural preparation for Ministers in Training (MiT). Your Area Team will outline the options available at the end of the course.
How do I become an Area Facilitator?
Area Facilitators are recruited and onboarded through the AoG Area Teams. If you're interested in running LiT in your area, get in touch with your Area Lead who will be able to advise on availability and next steps.
What support is provided to facilitators?
Facilitators receive a full toolkit including video content, full transcripts, personalisation scripts, prepared discussion questions, homework outlines, facilitator training videos, and admin templates including mentoring guides and template emails. Full facilitator training is provided before the course begins.
